Previous US Army, Basler Flight Service, Amerijet International... manufactured 1944. June 1988 sold to SAGAT Turin management agency of the Turin/Caselle airport Italy and ferried to Italy where it was repainted white/blue and transformed in a static attraction at the airport and painted as "I-LEON" of Linee Aeree Italiane.
The last of the trio of DC-3s that more-less regularly operate from Opa Locka these days, does not attract too much by its colours, however a white DC-3 is still better than all those boring Ryanairs and Wizz Airs...
This DC-3 of Atlantic Air Cargo is a familiar sight in Opa Locka and I already photographed her 10 years ago, however to see a flying DC-3 in normal traffic is rare today. Together with others operates mainly with cargo to/from Bahamas..
For decades, this DC-3 has served local communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, most recently under Air Labrador. It was decommissioned in 1988 and the airlines dedicated it to the town of Grace Harbor, where it recalls the importance of local airports for the development of aviation and especially transatlantic flights.
